A young couple captured on CCTV having sex in a Toowoomba Magistrates Court was sentenced to perform 60 hours of community service.
According to the New York Post, the couple, identified as 19-year-old Shameka Leeding and her boyfriend, 20-year-old James Quinn, were both caught having sex in the public waiting area of the courthouse. The couple was not only caught on camera but by multiple courthouse staff.
Leeding was scheduled to appear at the courthouse for an undisclosed matter and was accompanied by her partner Quin on June 28. reports say the two moved to the eastern end of the waiting area, began kissing and Leeds is seen lifting her skirt and sitting on Quin's lap. When approached by security the couple stopped but resumed what they were doing afterwards. They were stopped for a second time, this time by a volunteer staff member but continued once again. Leeding and Quin were stopped for a third and final time, once again by security, and Leeding in an attempt to block Quin from view as he tried to cover himself, quickly rose with her arms outstretched. Less than fifteen feet away from where Leeds and Quin were engaging in sex, several people were waiting for court to begin.
After leaving the courthouse, the couple was later served with a notice to appear in court for the indecent act and on Friday both pleaded guilty. Leeding’s representative Ryan McCullough said the couple had been overcome with the “exuberance of youth”.
The presiding magistrate, Clare Kelly, said she had never heard of such an act being carried out in a courthouse.
